Nigeria contributes 27% (WMR2021) of the global malaria cases and 27% (WMR 2021) of global malaria deaths. Malaria is responsible for 60% of outpatient visits to health facilities, 30% of childhood death, 25% of death in children under one year and 11% of maternal death. The financial loss due to malaria annually is estimated to be about 132 billion Naira in form of treatment costs, prevention, loss of man-hours etc. The new National Malaria Strategic Plan 2021-2025 aims to reduce Prevalence to less than 10% and reduce mortality attributable to malaria to less than 50 deaths per 1,000 live births by 2025 and would require an estimated N1.89 trillion to achieve this reduction..
