Nigeria had the highest number of global malaria cases (27% of global malaria cases) in 2019 and accounted for the highest number of deaths (23% of global malaria deaths). In view of the high prevalence and burden of malaria in Nigeria, the use of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) remains an integral tool for malaria control. Understanding the identity of malaria vectors, their distribution across the different ecological zones in Nigeria and their role in malaria transmission is critical to the strategic deployment of interventions such as ITNs.
